Lady Arkham

I was tasked to design an original villain for the Batman universe. Lady Arkham's design had to communicate a tortured past. I looked at historical insane asylum straight jackets and WWII SS officer uniforms as inspiration. Half way through writing wanted to disguise her gender to reveal her identity as a shock halfway through the season. The images that resonated the most that the art directors kept going back to where of the honeycomb skull faced funeral woman design. I worked that into the more masculine military costume before DC deemed the diamond pattern too much like Harley Quinn. The final design of the mask was a mixture between two later designs.
